About Frank Virga

Frank Virga is a contemporary artist who paints in the style of the “Old Masters” like DaVinci, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, and Vermeer. However, Frank brings their style into the 21st century. He studied visual arts at Hunter College NYC in the early 1970s with a biology and chemistry major. He graduated and went on to New York University College of Dentistry. In 1975, he graduated and became a dentist with a hobby of making oil paintings.

As a hobby, Frank has studied with many fine artists, such as Attile Hejjia, Stevenson Academy, Oyster Bay, N.Y.; Robert Armetta, LIAF, Glen Cove, N.Y.; Paul Gatto Galleries, Farmingdale, N.Y.; Max Ginsburg, Art Student League Of New York; and many more.

His background in biology and science naturally equipped him to develop his technique of painting, which uses the effect of light on paint that only the human eye can truly detect and appreciate. It is said his art is spiritual and speaks to one’s soul.
